Based on her book, Incline Your Ear: Cultivating Spiritual Awakening in Congregations, author and spiritual director Teresa Blythe will guide us in a conversation focused on movements of listening for God as practiced in classical spiritual Direction and how these movements relate to the vitality of congregations.

Teresa Blythe is a full-time spiritual director, educator, and writer. After a radio news journalist career, she switched gears and headed for seminary, graduating from San Francisco Theological Seminary (M.Div. and Diploma in the Art of Spiritual Direction) in 2000. Since then, she has been a spiritual director for individuals and groups, serving as a discernment facilitator, leading workshops and keynoting conferences on contemplative Christian spirituality.
When Teresa moved to Phoenix in 2014, she founded the Phoenix Center for Spiritual Direction, housed at First UCC church in downtown Phoenix.
For over 14 years, she was the Director of the Hesychia School of Spiritual Direction, a formation program for spiritual directors located at the Redemptorist Renewal Center at Picture Rocks. She now trains spiritual directors online through her Apprentice Spiritual Direction Training Program.
In addition to Incline Your Ear, she is the author of Spiritual Direction 101: The Basics of Spiritual Guidance and 50 Ways to Pray: Practices from Many Traditions and Times. She also co-wrote Meeting God in Virtual Reality: Using Spiritual Practices With Media and Watching What We Watch: Prime-Time Television Through the Lens of Faith.
Teresa is an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ (UCC) specializing in Spiritual Direction. She is dedicated to always being open and affirming to LGBTQ+ persons. She works out of Phoenix, AZ, but does most client sessions via Zoom online.
